This was shot at a wedding reception in an Irish Pub!  I used my kit 18-55 lens and a 580 ex II, bounced.

We were actually trying to get a good shot of the bride and all her bride’s maids, sporting Guinness Moustaches!  Thank God they all liked Guinness!

Beautiful Light: 4 LETTER WORD MACHINE

Beautiful Light: 4 LETTER WORD MACHINE, originally uploaded by Stéphane Lam.

Nuit Blanche, 2009, Toronto, Canada.
It was a perfect night. The air was not too cold, the sky was not too filled with clouds, they were just perfectly defined, and there was a fog setting in on the city. That, combined with the many art exhibits throughout Toronto (Such as this one; Beautiful Light : 4 LETTER WORD MACHINE), made for a very romantic setting…

There was a lot of photos to be taken, and this is just one of many!
The “4 LETTER WORD MACHINE” featured the four 7m square alphanumeric quartz lamp arrays, Suspended 65 metres in the air between the Viljo Revell-designed Toronto City Hall towers, which displayed codes, DNA sequences and elemental words. With each of the four “characters” consisting of 16 light segments, the machine was capable of displaying nearly 4.94 billion distinct graphic combinations, facilitating the expression of any word in any language. Automated code sequences were run between live performance times.

Shot Info : 10sec. , f13, 18mm, -0.05exp, ISO 200

Treble Warriors 9381

Originally uploaded by Stéphane Lam

My friend, China’s (Keepin 6) new side project, Treble Warriors was going out to take some band shots with my friend Kevo.

I was invited to tag along and help out.
This is one of my favorite shots from the day.
The light was quickly disapearing, it was getting late, i got lucky enough to capture this @ 1/50 sec. , f7.1, 18mm, -1.45 Exp, ISO 800

At full size it starts to show distortion. I’d like to retake this with artificial light sources for the subjects.

I decided to go into the city a few weeks ago and meet with some friends for a pint and to walk around a bit.

As we walked through China Town, I noticed this abandoned shop.
My friend, Berta, curiously looks into it, as I seized the opportunity right away!

This was converted to b&w in CS4.
Shot on my 450D w/18-55.

Did I tell you I love wide angles?
This was shot @ 18mm, 1/50 sec, f3.5, iso 400,
at 8pm when the light was quickly diminishing…
I’m pretty happy with the 18-55 kit lens, but i cannot wait to get the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8!
